Our program is based on Apple Macintosh technology, as it is the industry standard in the design profession and in most art professions.
Students who need access to Adobe software should also purchase an Adobe Creative Cloud membership. This software can be purchased from their website at a discounted student rate.
Students should also download the Microsoft Office Software provided by NKU. Instructions on how to install Microsoft Office.
Art & Design has six computer labs available to students, one of which is the student open lab. If students choose to purchase a computer, we recommend that students purchase a MacBook Pro or iMac at minimum; some advanced students may benefit from a Mac Pro. On any model, please get the largest hard drive and memory (RAM) that the student can afford. Always get Apple Care.
For those with laptops, you can plug in an extra monitor to use dual screens for more visual real estate and have an external keyboard and mouse when working in a set location like in your dorm room or home.
