The Environmental Field is very diverse and this diversity is reflected in the variety of jobs for which one graduating with a B.S. in Environmental Science is qualified. Below is a list of some broad job categories with a brief description. It is important to note that the environmental field is very diverse and this list is not intended to be exhaustive.
Public Education and Outreach – working with the public to achieve awareness about environmental problems and solutions. These jobs are available with non-profit organizations, government agencies, parks, outdoor education centers, etc.
Technical and restoration solutions to environmental problems – this kind of work includes pollution monitoring, restoration, site assessment, planning, modeling, etc. These jobs are available with consulting firms, water and wastewater facilities, government agencies and some non-profit organizations.
Political/legal aspects of environmental problems – this area includes lobbying, technical writing, data gathering and analysis and other activities that support regulation and litigation.
Field studies – this work includes species surveys, habitat assessment, and research. These jobs area available with consulting firms and government agencies.
