Master of Accountancy (MAcc) – A program to match your background

Accounting has been rising in popularity as a second career in recent years, as many have started to see the benefits of it as a current path. It has a high degree of growth, mobility and portability, enabling graduates to work in any industry and geography. To help students pursue a new degree or further education in the accounting field, the NKU Haile College of Business offers three different tracks for students to receive a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) degree.

The Accounting Practice and Reporting (APR) Track is designed specifically for those seeking to make a change in their careers. Current MAcc student Daniel Hill says that the APR Track has been one of the best decisions of his life, “After transitioning from a career in restaurant management, this program has provided me the resources and discipline necessary to excel in the accounting field. I landed my first accounting job through the college’s “Meet the Firms”, a career fair specifically for accounting students, and have since begun preparation for the CPA.” This 36-credit hour track, in addition with a previous undergraduate degree, allows students to complete the 150 credit hours which qualified them to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

In January, the College launched the “4+1 Track”. This track is for current accounting undergraduate students at NKU. It enables them to work towards their MAcc degree as undergraduates. As a result, students can achieve both a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and a MAcc degree in five years and meet the 150 credit hours necessary to sit for the CPA exam.

Finally, the College of Business offers a degree track for in-career accounting professionals. The Professional Track is a 30-credit hour program specifically designed for individuals who already have earned an undergraduate accounting degree and who are interested in pursuing a public accounting career. At the end of the program, students will have earned enough credit to sit for the CPA exam.

NKU’s MAcc program can open many opportunities for career change or advancements. Graduates include many CEOs and CFOs of corporations, partners in public accounting firms, controllers of government agencies, finance directors of charitable organizations, special agents in white-collar crime, entrepreneurs and university professors.
