May 20, 2020—Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) offers virtual summer camps to help kids explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) at home during summer.
CINSAM’s Virtual Summer Camps invite elementary and middle school students to have fun, hands-on, educational experiences in their favorite STEM subjects. Camps for students in third through eighth grades can explore new topics each week through July. NKU faculty and staff will lead the camps with live video lessons and guided scientific experimentation.
“We are adapting to our new online learning environment by implementing virtual summer programs that capture the essence of STEM focused learning,” said Danielle Dores, CINSAM program manager. “We hope to provide deeply engaging educational activities for children while they are at home.”
This year’s lineup has students sampling forensic trace evidence, breaking out of digital escape rooms, and engineering solar ovens for roasting s’mores in them. The cost of each camp is $45 per household, and a materials list of low cost, commonplace items will be provided upon registration.
Grades 3-5
Elementary Engineers | May 25- 29
Elementary Science Superstars | June 22-26
Cooking Up Some Science | June 29 – July 3
Grades 3-6
Blast off Into Rocket Camp | June 15-19
Grades 6-8
Middle School Forensic Camp | June 1-5
Middle School STEM Explorers | June 8-12
Summer camp fees remain low due in large part to sponsorship from Ashland. Additionally, this sponsorship allows CINSAM to offer scholarships to low-income students who meet the requirements for the "Free & Reduced Meal" programs in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana. Parents have the option to apply for a scholarship during registration.

About CINSAM: NKU's Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) was established in 2000. CINSAM is dedicated to promoting enthusiasm, excellence and equity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics education at preschool through undergraduate levels and around our region.
About NKU: Founded in 1968, we are a growing metropolitan university of more than 14,000 students served by more than 2,000 faculty and staff on a thriving suburban campus near Cincinnati. Located in the quiet suburb of Highland Heights, Kentucky—just seven miles southeast of Cincinnati—we have become a leader in Greater Cincinnati and Kentucky by providing a private school education for a fraction of the cost. While we are one of the fastest growing universities in Kentucky, our professors still know our students' names. For more information, visit nku.edu.
